I am searching for information about Susan Baldwin and her ancestry. She married her cousin Daniel Baldwin in New Milford, Connecticut on Nov 8, 1809. I can trace Daniel back to 1638, but can't get beyond Susan. Her father's name was John. Both Daniel and Susan died in Farm Ridge, La Salle County, Illinois. Susan died August 23, 1854. Daniel died October 7, 1860. I would like a copy of Elmer Baldwin's genealogy for La Salle County or copies of pages relevant to my ancesters. My great grandfather was Marquis LaFayette Baldwin. He was in the Farm Ridge area, moved to Gennesee County, Michigan to raise a family, and then moved back to La Salle County where he died January 1, 1902 in Ottawa. Can I get a map of La Salle County? Also, there was a Baldwin family bible (my grandmother told me in a letter). She said that a Ms. Grandlund(sp?), a niece had it. I was unable to search on your web site because the links did not work.

This is an update to my 2000 query WHEATLAND/SMITH/CHURCH/PEARSON - William Wheatland and Elizabeth Blackwell Wheatland and son Isaac w/wife Ann (Forbes) and daughter Elizabeth (m. Wedgebury) immigrated to Ohio in 1832. They trekked to LaSalle Ill about 1835, living near Ottawa. Isaac and Ann had additional children William, Mary Ann (CHURCH), Albert, George, Helen D. (PEARSON), Jonathan, and Fanny. Ann died about 1846 and Isaac drowned in the Illinois River in January 5, 1848. Altho, the grandparents and Isaac's third wife were living at the time, they gave the children to the State of Illinois who in turn made them wards of Edgar Baldwin. Though he had custody (wardship) of all the children I noted in the 1850 census that only one of the children actually was listed with him. The remaining children were listed with a variety of folk around LaSalle and Lvingston Counties. My 2d Great Grandfather was George WHEATLAND (b. 8/5/1838). Married Esther J.SMITH (b. 9/3/1840 in Connecticut)on April 29, 1863 in Ottawa. Esther's parents were William R. & Eliza Smith. Esther's siblings were Franklin, Ford, Frederick, Amelia and Augusta. My great grandfather, Frank Albert WHEATLAND was born in Illinois Feb 15, 1865. I know that George and Esther are buried in Siloam Springs, Benton, Arkansas and I have found George on the 1850 (Vermillion), 1860 (Farm Ridge), 1900 (Nebraska)& 1910 (Nebraska)census and Esther on the 1860 (Farm Ridge, ILL), 1900 (Nebraska) and 1910 (Colorado). Any info on ALL WHEATLANDS and specific info on George and Esther SMITH WHEATLAND would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My great-grandparents, William Strunck (or Strunk) and Marie Louise Linnig were married in LaSalle County around 1858. Marie Louise Linnig was orphaned when her parents Johann and his wife Anna Catherine (Hover) Linnig (from Prussia in 1852)and the two youngest children of six, died in a cholera epidemic in Peru. (According to reseach, so many residents of Peru died there was no time to build coffins so a trench was dug at what is now Sixth and West Sts. and my ancestors were buried there.) The four remaining orphaned Linnig children (Marie Louise, Marie Elizabeth, Heinrich and Joseph)went through probate court/guardianship proceedings and were raised in the home of Anton Birkenbuehl. We know almost nothing about my great-grandfather, William Strunck, except he was born in Prussia, married my great-grandmother in LaSalle County in 1858, was naturalized in Lee County in 1860, and wound up in Chicago with his family by 1870 (from the 1870 census). I'd appreciate any information.

I found a marriage record for Frederick L. Trayse and Josephine c. Becker in La Salle county, 02/16/1887. Josephine Becker is listed as the godparent in my grandfather's (Harry Henry Tracey) baptism record at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Chicago in 1893. THey frequently listed women by theri birth name rather than their married name. I was wondering if there were Traceys or Beckers in La Salle with a Chicago connection or if people from Chicago came to LA Salle to be married at that time. Harry Henry had a brother named Frederick. Perhaps this Frederick was his uncle. These Traceys were originally from Massachucetts. Grasping at straws to find this elusive family. Thanks, Richard

Seeking information on Susan INKS who listed her name as Susan VANCE when she married Frank A. SLOCUM, Adams Co., IL September 23, 1894. Frank was 42 years of age and this was his second marriage. His first wife died and left 4 young boys which Susan helped raise. The marriage license return shows Susan was a widow, this was her second marriage, maiden name Susan INKS, age next birthday "34," born in PA, Father Thomas INKS, Mother "Madilda" PATTERSON. LDS records show Susan was born March 15, 1853, Fayette, PA which would have made her about 41 years old. She died Feb. 03, 1920 and is buried along side Frank in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Adams, IL. The headstone only has "SLOCUM" on it. Death notice in the newspaper stated she had relatives in Nebraska. Frank died in 1936 and was an Ice Cream Manufacturer for a number of years. Some of the INKS family moved to LaSalle Co., IL from PA. Does anymore have information on Susan and the VANCE she married previously and where and when they married. I notice that a Susan Elizabeth INKS married a Joseph W. BOND in LaSalle Co., IL on Feb. 15, 1871. Is this also the same Susan?

I am looking for information on my ancestor, Richard Wooliscroft/Woolliscroft. He married Emma Barber in Freeport, Stephenson Illinois in 1857 (54 is noted in the family bible). He lived in Streator for quite a while, and was in the mining industry there. He died in Streator, Lasalle on June 4, 1890 (I have a copy of his OB), and he was the Town Magistrate for a few years before he passed away. He and Emma had 9 children. I'd like any info on his background or on Emma's background. I'm stuck at this point, and do not know their parent's names. Thanks!

My gg grandfather, Christopher Vahldieck (born 1823 in Berlin) settled in Peru around 1857. He was married to Louisa Breizenmeister and they came here from Germany after they were married. Some documents list him as being in the German army for 10 years before moving to the US, but in Peru kept a place of "public refreshment" and eventually ended up in farming. They had 8 children, William (my great grandfather), married Katie Ryan, Elizabeth (Vahldieck) married John Nolan, Edward, married Ida Liginberg, Ida (Vahldieck) married Martin Wisman, Emma, Anna (Vahldieck) married Lester Fife, a son who died in infancy, and a daughter who was killed in Peru from a train accident at age 8. Any suggestions on where I might find information about the daughter who died to learn of her name and birth date? Any information would be appreciated. The family eventually moved to the Long Point area to continue farming.

I recently received an obit (Free Press Daily) for my 4th great-grandfather, Christian WULTZEN, who died in March, 1881. It listed him as "an old resident of Riverside" and mentioned the funeral would take place at the house of his son "in Riverside." Can someone please confirm if Riverside was a community or a street in 1881? His son, Edward WULTZEN, was living in Eagle Twp. for the 1880 census. Thank you in advance for your help.

January 9, 2002 Hello, I am searching for information about the Alftine family. My Great-grandfather, Erik Alftine immigrated from Norway to America during the Civil War. He was married to a Christine (Johns Daughter)Alftine before leaving Norway. They boarded a cattle ship at that time I am being told by distant relatives. I know he is buried in the Grand Ridge cemetery, Grand Ridge, Illinois. I visited this cemetery in March 2001, and took a photo of his gravestone then. I would appreciate it if you could find out more informaiton about my Great grandfather Erik Alftine. He gave up his citizenship to his country of Norway to become an American. Anything you can find, his religion, what town he lived in, most of all the number of children they had, and where they would be located. I recently found a woman named, Vivian Mae (Alftine) age 69, whose father was Jonas Andersson Alftine. Please contact me when you find this information. She is also interested if we are "distant cousins." Thanks so much for any help you can give me. Sincerely, Nancy (Shull) Fink.
