Mrs. Chapman Dies Saturday; Services Today [Feb 21, 1944]
Mrs. Martha Jane Chapman, 80, widow of the late Otis L. Chapman, died at
6:30 Saturday night at the home of her son, Oscar R. Chapman of Miller
township.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Chapman this afternoon at Seal's Chapel,
with burial in Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. Kermit Long officiated.
Pallbearers were Howard Olmstead, C. C. Parr, Peter Mitchell, Walter Long,
Wilbur Loring and Alvy Boyd.
Mrs. Chapman was the daughter of the late Daniel and Catherine Waltz
Hohenshell. She was born April 27, 1863 in Grundy county, and was a lifelong
resident of this community. Jan. 15, 1890, she was married to Otis L.
Chapman. To this union were born Henry, Hiram W. and Oscar R. Chapman of
Marseilles, and Mrs. Della C. Wheeler of Wyanet, who survive, Several
grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive, as does one sister, Mrs.
Roxanna Wildey of Seneca, and two brothers, Phyat Hohenshell of Morris and
Daniel Hohenshell.
Brothers and sisters who preceded her in death were Mary Miller, Sarah
Wildey, Cora Johnson, Lottie Torkelson, Lizzie Berlich, and Laura, Fred,
Frank and George Hohenshell.
