Submitter: Anne Stohr [senexa@earthlink.net]
I’m seeking any information you may possess, or leads of any kind, on
Charles E. Smith. The connection to LaSalle County is only tentative.
However, my 2nd great-grandmother (Mary Secrist) married a Mr. Charles Smith
in Macon County, Illinois. Subsequent events, leading to the birth of my
great-grandfather a short while after the Civil War, ended are murky.
However, a military record connects Charles E. Smith to Company A of the
64th Illinois Regiment of the Civil War. All of the dates fit the picture of
a marriage and the birth of a child. For example, each of these events
coincides with a furlough from military service for Mr. Smith. Somehow,
after the war, Mr. Smith disappears and we are left wondering where he may
have gone. His wife remarries and has more children. Because Smith is such a
common name, it is difficult to be certain, but I think the Charles E. Smith
of the marriage license in Macon may well be the Charles E. Smith of the
64th Regimental. Any and all leads will be gratefully considered. Thank you.

In the mid 1920's my grandfather operated a shoe store in Genoa on Main St.
His wife died in childbirth in the late 1920's and because he already had 5

St. Joseph's. The baby, Karoline, was eventually released with his
signature, but there are no records that we can get access to as to her
fate. We do know that she was never adopted, but we can't get any further
information. Karoline is my aunt and would be in her early 70's now. She has

eventually being reunited with her. Her father's (my grandfather's) name was

may give me any information as to her history?

I am researching Claspers from England who immigrated to Streator, LaSalle,

widowed as his wife (Elinore Watson (b) Oct 16, 1836 in England) died in
child birth in England. George is found in the 1880 LaSalle Co city of
Streator census living with the John Hillier Family. He is listed as a coal
miner, age 25, with both parents born in England. It says that he is single
but I have information that he was married to a 20 Y/O girl who was left
in England living with his sister Annie Clasper Browell, George's brothers
Wm, and John T. and a sister Isabella. Annie was married to Wm Henry
Browell. Does anyone know what happened to George? His wife must have
