I am researching Thomas McGrath who married Bridget White in 1866. The first
I can find him is his marriage record, but the 1870 census says he was born
in Ireland and was a citizen. He may possibly have had a brother Patrick,
and I believe that he came as a minor about 1845/50. I have been unable to
find his death date, but believe he died around 1896, as his widow Bridget
states in the 1900 census that they had been married 30 years. He is not
buried in the Reilly cemetery with Bridget and some of his children. I think
it is a possibility he served in the Civil War because a Thomas McGrath is
listed as serving in the 58th Regt, Co. H, listing his hometown as
"Chebanse" which supposedly is in LaSalle County, but I cannot find it. Any
information will be much appreciated. Joy

In the 1930's, my uncle Frederick Runyard was in Marseilles, LaSalle Co, in
the CCC camp building the state park. He met a girl, LOIS, and they had a
child, ELAINE, out of wedlock, sometime around 1937. She would be about 65
years old now. Frederick kept in touch with Lois and Elaine until he was
killed in 1944 on a troop ship in the Mediterranean. My grandma, Florence
Runyard, of Winnebago, IL used to send Elaine gifts on her birthday and
Christmas. Only recently did I learn that I had a cousin, Elaine. I am told
that she may have had red curly hair. Her father, Fred, had very curly blond
hair, and he was a very handsome man. I would appreciate any help in finding
my cousin, Elaine. Her last name would probably been the same as her mother
Lois, but there is a possibility that she was given the Runyard name.
