Seeking information on Peter Oleson (Olsen), born circa 1825 in Norway. He first appears in the U.S. in the 1850s census as a farmer in LaSalle County IL. Peter married Harriett Brooks in Vermilion Twp. on January 3, 1858; the marriage was performed by Rev. Alfred Lothrop. Two children were born to this marriage. Lillian Augusta Oleson was born October 17, 1858 in Vermillion Twp. She wed George(?) Hepler in Ottawa on February 5, 1875. Lillian died January 17, 1927 in Streator. Leland (Lee)LeRoy Oleson was born February 2, 1860 in Vermilion Twp. He wed Elvira Mariah Crow in Rooks Creek Twp., Livingston Co., on December 27, 1882. Leland died December 31, 1920 in Remington, Jasper Co. IN. Their father, Peter, enlisted in the Union Army on August 5, 1862 at Ottawa, as a private in Company A of the 104th Illinois Infantry. He was killed in action on September 20, 1863 during the Battle of Chickamauga in Walker County, Georgia. His place of burial is unknown. More than two years after Peter's death, his brother-in-law John A. Lock of Eagle Twp., LaSalle Co., was made legal guardian of the children Lillian and Leland (their mother remarried). The children's name was apparently changed to (or at last recorded during this legal proceeding as) "Alson." Subsequent generations of Peter's descendants were born under the surname Alson. It is unknown when Peter emigrated to America, where he may have lived prior to entering LaSalle Co., who(if anyone) may have emigrated with him, if he had any blood- family members in America before/during/after his emigration, or where in Norway he was from.

I have recently found out that my great-grandparents were married in Richland township of LaSalle County, Illinois in 1861. They were Theodore, Sr., and Anna Christina (Knecht) Jenn. Theodore Jenn, Sr., came to the US from Neunkirchen, Germany (by Cologne) with his parents in 1857. His father's name was Wemeiner (spelling may not be exactly right) and I don't know Wemeiner's wife's name. Given the fact that Mr. and Mrs. Wemeiner Jenn are NOT buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in North Washington, Chickasaw County, Iowa, my key question is where are they buried. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Jenn, Sr., and all my other relatives are buried in North Washington. I am wondering if they died of old age in LaSalle County, not having made the migration to NE Iowa that their son and his family did. any assistance would be appreciated.

WHEATLAND/SMITH/CHURCH/PEARSON - William Wheatland and Elizabeth Blackwell Wheatland and son Isaac w/ wife Ann (Forbes) and daughter Elizabeth (m. Wedgebury) immigrated to Ohio in 1832. They trekked to LaSalle Ill about 1835, living near Ottawa. Isaac and Ann had additional children William, Mary Ann (CHURCH), Bertha, Albert, George, Helen D. (PEARSON), Jonathan, and Fanny. Ann died about 1846 and Isaac drowned in the Illinois River in 1848. Altho, the grandparents and Isaac's third wife were living at the time, they gave the children to the State of Illinois who in turn made them wards of Edgar Baldwin. Though he had custody (wardship) of all the children I noted in the 1850 census that only one of the children actually was listed with him. The remaining children were listed with a variety of folk around LaSalle and Lvingston Counties. My 2d Great Grandfather is George WHEATLAND (b. 8/5/1838). Married Mary Esther SMITH (or Esther Mary)(b. 9/3/1840). I don't have anything on the SMITH's but can only assume the marriage took place in Illinois because my great grandfather, Frank Albert WHEATLAND was born in Illinois. I know that George and Esther are buried in Siloam Springs, Benton, Arkansas and I have found George on a couple of other census records, however, I have nothing about either of them between 1850 and 1910. Any info on ALL WHEATLANDS and specific info on George and Esther SMITH WHEATLAND would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Their names are Frank Smith and Cleo (or Cecelia) Root Smith. Children were Proxida, Isabella and Walter. There is a question as to whether Isabella and Walter were adopted (no birth records found). They were believed to be brother and sister and adopted together. Anything sound familiar? Any info would help. Thanks...
