Local Building Contractor is Taken By Death


John Lightholder Sucumbs After Lingering Illness;Rites Thursday


           John Lightholder, 69, of 307 Court Street, prominent Streator contractor,

and widely known citizen; died at 6 o'clock last evening at St Mary's

hospital where he had been a patient the past week. He had been in ill

health over a period of several weeks.

          Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Elias

Funeral Home, and at 2:30 at Christ Episcopal Church. Burial will be in

Riverview Cemetery. Streator Lodge 607, A.F. & A.M. will conduct it's

ritualistic services at the cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral

home after 4 p.m. on Wednesday.


 Resident Here 45 Years

          Mr. Lightholder is survived by his wife, the former Blanche Holmes to whom

he was married Aug.19,19_6 in Streator, and by the following children

through a previous marriage to Mary Rahn, who died in 1927: Mrs. Alfred

(Olive) Kosanke, Hammond, Ind.; Mrs.Margaret Allen, also of Hammond,

Ind.; and Mrs. F.W.(Helen) Weaver of Streator. There are five

grandchildren and one great grandchild.

          Also surviving is a sister , Mrs. Rose Condon, Dwight. Another sister,

Mrs. Della Ralph, also of Dwight, preceded him in death.

          The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Lightholder was born July 18, 1884, at

Dwight, where he resided until 45 years ago when he came to Streator. It

was here he spent the balance of his life.

          A carpenter by occupation, he had been engaged as a building contractor

in Streator since 1925, numbering  among his ventures many of the city's

major building projects both in the downtown area, as well as the

residential and industrial sections of the community.

           He also manifested a continuing interest in civic affairs, and there

were numerous occasions when his counsel was sought and readily

forthcoming in the development of various undertakings of public


 Active Lodge Worker

 He ws a 32nd degree Mason, a past master of Streator Lodge 607,

Past commander of Streator Commandery 70, a member of the Streator Lodge

of Elks and Carpenters Union Local 495.
