Kiefer, William “Will” born about 1861 in Amboy, died I am told March 28, 1905 in LaSalle co. He had two children, his wife, Mary Daugherty, died in 1895. If someone has a chance to see if they could locate an obit for late March 1905 on him that would open up a line that has been a dead-end for quite a while. Or if anyone has seen the grave markers for Mary & William Kiefer. It might mention that he probably was a veteran of the Spanish American War. Thanks to any and all takers! Regards, Rich Pershell

Surnames: SMITH SECRIST
Submitter: Anne Stohr [[email protected]]
I’m seeking any information you may possess, or leads of any kind, on Charles E. Smith. The connection to LaSalle County is only tentative. However, my 2nd great-grandmother (Mary Secrist) married a Mr. Charles Smith in Macon County, Illinois. Subsequent events, leading to the birth of my great-grandfather a short while after the Civil War, ended are murky.  However, a military record connects Charles E. Smith to Company A of the 64th Illinois Regiment of the Civil War. All of the dates fit the picture of a marriage and the birth of a child. For example, each of these events coincides with a furlough from military service for Mr. Smith. Somehow, after the war, Mr. Smith disappears and we are left wondering where he may have gone. His wife remarries and has more children. Because Smith is such a common name, it is difficult to be certain, but I think the Charles E. Smith of the marriage license in Macon may well be the Charles E. Smith of the 64th Regimental. Any and all leads will be gratefully considered. Thank you. Anne E. Stohr [email protected]

In the mid 1920's my grandfather operated a shoe store in Genoa on Main St. His wife died in childbirth in the late 1920's and because he already had 5 children, he took the child to a local orphanage...I believe the name was St. Joseph's. The baby, Karoline, was eventually released with his signature, but there are no records that we can get access to as to her fate. We do know that she was never adopted, but we can't get any further information. Karoline is my aunt and would be in her early 70's now. She has two living sisters, Mary and Helen (my mother) who are both in their 70's as well. They would like to find out anything about her with hopes of eventually being reunited with her. Her father's (my grandfather's) name was Wilhelm (Bill) Kozicki. Would you have access to any county records which may give me any information as to her history?

I am researching Claspers from England who immigrated to Streator, LaSalle, Ill. All of my early Clasper's were coal miners. Wm Henry or Henry C. (b) Oct 18, 1833, I'm not sure which as he went by Henry, came to LaSalle Co before 1880 with one son George (b) Jan 2, 1856 in England. Henry was widowed as his wife (Elinore Watson (b) Oct 16, 1836 in England) died in child birth in England.  George is found in the 1880 LaSalle Co city of Streator census living with the John Hillier Family. He is listed as a coal miner, age 25, with both parents born in England.  It says that he is single but I have information that he was married to a 20 Y/O girl who was left in England living with his sister Annie Clasper Browell, George's brothers Wm, and John T. and a sister Isabella. Annie was married to Wm Henry Browell.  Does anyone know what happened to George? His wife must have followed him to this country.

I am looking for any records for schools, teachers or the like. My great grandfather’s sister Rose Ellen Heer was a school teacher at “Leland, IL” which I have found is in LaSalle County. She was born to David and Martha Heer in Jo Daviess County, Galena, IL on Feb. 15, 1868 and died rather young, not sure why on April 4, 1901. She is buried in Galena, IL at Greenwood Cemetery. I just want to find any info about her as a teacher, or something at all. Since she died young as did two of her sisters, there is little info on them. Her sisters each died one in childbirth, after being sick years before, the other died at 18 yrs. when cancer was found in her leg and spreading. Rose was one of 17 children at last count, she being one of the middle children.
